Dragon Tears is an Acer palmatum Japanese maple that a is relatively new introduction. This variety, named for the interesting way the tiny new crimson leaves emerge, matures through the summer to a deep burgundy. Dragon tears is unique in that it grows horizontally like the Ryusen, and has a semi-pendulous habit like lace leaf varieties.
Fall color is bright red. Mature size after 10 years is 6 feet high by 6 feet wide. Hardy but needs shade in the afternoon in very hot climates. Best suited for zones 6-9.
