Cephalocereus senilis is a slow‑growing cactus native to the arid regions of Hidalgo and Veracruz in Mexico. Its trademark feature is the long, silky white hairs that cover the stem—an adaptation that protects it from intense sun and temperature swings.
-
Prefers full sun; the hair protects it, but young plants benefit from gradual acclimation to avoid sunburn.
-
Indoors, place in the brightest south‑facing window available.
💧 Watering
-
Water sparingly. Allow soil to dry completely between waterings.
-
During active growth (late spring–summer): water every 3–4 weeks, depending on heat and pot size.
-
In winter: water once every 6–8 weeks or even less.
-
Overwatering is the most common cause of decline—roots rot easily.
