Dracaena fragrans ‘Lemon Surprise’ is one of the easiest, most forgiving foliage plants you can grow — a cheerful, lime‑striped cultivar of the classic corn plant. The short version: it’s a low‑light tolerant, drought‑resistant, air‑purifying Dracaena with spiraled, variegated leaves and a compact, upright habit.

🌱 Care Requirements (Yakima‑friendly guidance)

☀️ Light

  • Thrives in medium indirect light, but tolerates low light better than most variegated plants.

  • Avoid harsh direct sun — it bleaches the lime striping.

💧 Water

  • Water when the top 2–3 inches of soil dry.

  • Dracaenas dislike fluoride and salts, so filtered or rainwater helps prevent brown tips.

  • Very drought‑tolerant — underwatering is safer than overwatering.

🪴 Soil

  • Standard well‑draining potting mix works perfectly.

  • Add perlite if your mix stays wet too long.

🌡️ Temperature

  • Ideal: 65–80°F (18–27°C).

  • Protect from cold drafts; damage begins below 55°F (13°C).

💦 Humidity

  • Unlike your Anthurium clarinervium or Calathea makoyana, this plant is not humidity‑sensitive.

  • Yakima’s dry air is totally fine.

    Pet Safety

    • Mildly toxic to cats and dogs if chewed (typical Dracaena saponins).

    • Causes drooling, vomiting, or lethargy — keep out of reach.
