Maihuenia poeppigii, commonly called Hierba del Guanaco, is a truly unusual cactus — it doesn’t look like the stereotypical spiny desert plant at all. Belongs to the rare genus Maihuenia, one of the few cacti adapted to cold, high-altitude environments. Unlike most cacti, it has small, persistent leaves alongside its spines, giving it a shrubby, almost succulent-like appearance. Found in Chile and Argentina, especially in the Patagonian Andes.
