Pereskia aculeata ‘Godseffiana Variegata’ is one of the most unusual “cacti” you can grow — a leafy, vining, thorny species that behaves more like a tropical climber than a desert succulent. The short version: it’s a fast‑growing, variegated, climbing cactus with golden‑cream leaves, sharp spines, and surprisingly high humidity tolerance.

🌱 Care Requirements (Yakima‑friendly guidance)

Yakima’s dry air is actually fine for this species, but it appreciates more moisture than desert cacti.

☀️ Light

  • Bright indirect to soft direct light.

  • Morning sun is ideal; harsh afternoon sun can scorch variegation.

  • More light = stronger variegation.

💧 Water

  • Water when the top 2 inches of soil dry.

  • Unlike desert cacti, Pereskia prefers consistent moisture.

  • Avoid overwatering — stems can rot if kept soggy.

🪴 Soil

  • A well‑draining cactus mix with added organic matter (like coco coir).

  • Think “succulent soil but slightly richer.”

🌡️ Temperature

  • Ideal: 65–85°F (18–29°C).

  • Protect from cold; damage begins below 50°F (10°C).

💦 Humidity

  • Tolerates Yakima’s dry air but grows faster at 40–60% humidity.

  • Not nearly as picky as your Maranta Fantasy or Calathea makoyana.

🐾 Pet Safety

  • Toxic and thorny — keep away from pets and kids.
