A broad-leaved evergreen shrub that is commonly grown as an indoor houseplant. Place in a window with bright light or filtered indirect light. It does not like wet feet, so water deeply and let dry almost completely between watering. They can be grown outdoors in containers in the summer in full sun but appreciate protection from harsh afternoon rays. Relatively pest and disease-free. Spider mites can occasionally be a problem and stressed plants are susceptible to aphids, mealybugs, and thrips. Wet soil promotes disease.
