Brazilian species blooms in summer with a spray of bright orange bell-shaped flowers. The plants look like a small Bifrenaria, with short egg-shaped pseudobulbs topped by long, thin leaves. Tolerant of a broad range of conditions, these plants are unusual and easy to grow.
Compact-growing Bifrenaria species, whose new growths produce a spray of 6-12 orange blooms. Flowers range from a more yellowy orange to a darker/brighter shade of tangerine (higher light in the growing area can extenuate the color). Flowers typically have red striations on the insides of the petals and/or lip.
Plants form distinctive pseudobulbs—each a kind of small polyhedron with a single leaf emerging from the center.
